The forthcoming Kaibo Mardi Gras has been slated for Wednesday, 1 March, a press release says.
The popular event which saw up to 4,000 people attend last year, has been going strong for five years at the North Side restaurant and bar.
Each year features a different theme to capture the imagination of all Mardi Gras lovers. This year’s theme is Naughty or Nice?
‘The idea behind the theme is to give attendees the chance to really let loose and be creative. Mardi Gras is not traditionally a Caribbean event, but this year we are going to make it part of our culture; a celebration of freedom and life,’ Searlina Bodden, creative director for Monster Media said.
One of just many exciting acts lined up for this year’s event is Chicago-based female performer DJ Solange.
DJ Solange, whose real name is Dani Deahl will feature alongside a robust line-up of DJs, emcees and live acts.
‘It’s going to be a fun and hilarious time for all involved and we needed fresh, cool acts to hold the day. DJ Solange with her extended resume in performance, DJing, dance and radio, just made sense,’ Ms Bodden added.
DJ Solange, who will also perform at the Next Level Nightclub on Tuesday, 28 February, has been in the business of DJing and performance since the age of 15, the press released added.
She counts her first influences in DJing as Chicago house artists like Mark Almaria, Bad Boy Bill, and Paul Johnson.
Soon after she fell in love with the genre, she was buying records and practicing every day which lead to her first Chicago residency when she was only eighteen.
‘Solange’s incredible versatility – including her stage presence and quirky performance antics – are a bridge for her to all audiences. She’s the type of artist all crowds will relate to. She even invites people on stage to dance with her.
DJ Solange is currently the house editor for the widely recognised URB Magazine, hosts a weekly top ten show with England’s Oasis FM and sits on the advisory board for the Chicago Music Commission
‘DJ Solange is just one of the ways in which Spin FM is enhancing Mardi Gras this year. We have so many exciting elements up our sleeves. Let’s just say it’s going to be a feast for the eyes and ears,’ Ms Bodden said.
In addition there will be a top secret live act in the VIP, as well as an exclusive DJ collaboration between Spin FM DJ Alexi – known most recently for his Friday night appearances in The Ritz Carlton’s Silver Palm Lounge, which Spin has dubbed After Eight Fridays – and DJ Solange.
