Police warn of theft from vehicles

Police are warning vehicle owners not to leave property and valuables in their vehicles – even for the shortest amount time.

A number of thefts from motor vehicles have taken place recently across the Island, which could have been avoided, said a press release from the RCIP.

Overnight on Tuesday, three cars were broken into:

A car in the car park next to World’s Gym had a window smashed and a handbag stolen.

A van parked at Kings Sports Centre had a window smashed and a wallet and cell phone stolen.

A car parked near Deckers on West Bay Road had a window smashed and a briefcase taken.

The vast majority thieves that target cars are opportunists – they see a bag or phone on the back seat of a car when they walk past, break the window and take it, the release said.

The RCIPS is urging all vehicle owners to keep their vehicles secure and remove all items of property.

Anyone who has information about car break-ins is asked to contact George Town police station on 949-4222 or call the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 TIPS.
