Boatswain’s donates digital cameras

Students to learn new skills

Boatswain’s Beach/Cayman Turtle Farm recently donated CI$1,700 to cover the cost of eight digital cameras that will be used to teach primary school students how to use this important technology.

‘Learning to use a digital camera is an important ICT skill our students are expected to master in the public primary schools,’ Education Officer for Science and Information Communication Technology, Mr. Fred Speirs explained in a press release.

‘Unfortunately, schools had only one or two cameras each, making it difficult to teach a whole class at once. With these extra cameras, we will be able to correct that shortcoming.’

Primary school ICT teachers Ms Keisha Thompson and Mr. Brendan Smith also expressed thanks to Boatswain’s Beach for the additional cameras and said they will find their work much easier as they will now be able to take the cameras to each school as needed.

‘They will also be invaluable in school excursions,’ Mr. Speirs added. ‘We are extremely grateful to the Turtle Farm and to Mr. Hydes in particular for his foresight in recognizing this need.’

Managing Director of Boatswain’s Beach, Mr. Kenneth Hydes, said: ‘We are pleased to make this donation and happy to help the community especially in the education of our children.’
