Youth health fair set for Saturday

Getting fit can be fun.

That’s the message behind Saturday’s Youth Health and Wellness Fair, which runs from 10am to 4pm at the Family Life Centre on Walkers Road.

Co-sponsored by Rotary Sunrise and the Cayman Islands Cancer Society, the event will feature a variety of demonstrations and hands-on activities along with loads of information on physical activity, nutrition and mental health.

The fair is geared to youth between the ages of four and 16.

Booths include the Cayman Islands Cancer Society, Public Health Department and Baptist Health South Florida.

Children and parents will be able to participate in basic health screenings and take in demonstrations on cooking and preparing healthy meals including school lunches. A variety of physical activities will also be showcased. The aim is to show young people and their parents that it can be fun getting fit and healthy, said a press release.

There will be a number of competitions and prizes including gym memberships, swimming sessions and skateboard park vouchers.

Admission is free. The main presentations will take place between noon and 2pm.
