Possible crash witness sought

Closed circuit television at On The Run on Shamrock Road taped the Honda Integra involved in Saturday’s crash just before the fatal accident.

The video shows the driver of the Integra overtaking three vehicles at an excessively high rate of speed.

Police have reviewed the video and are now searching for the drivers of the three cars that were overtaken so they can be questioned about events leading up to the crash.

Miss Teen Cayman 2004-05 Iliana De La Cruz of George Town died in the accident, which occurred about 7.40am. She was a passenger in the Integra, which slammed into the back of a flat-bed pickup truck near Stingray Brewery.

A second victim succumbed to injuries Monday afternoon.

Angelo Luciano, 22, of Windsor Park had been in the back of the truck when the collision occurred. The Filipino national was taken to Cayman Islands Hospital where he died.

The Integra driver, a 20-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and is in critical condition in hospital in Miami.

The 36-year-old male driver of the pick-up truck sustained bruising and cuts for which he received treatment for at the Cayman Islands Hospital. His 48-year-old passenger was unhurt in the incident.

The three vehicles shown in the video are a White Toyota Camry, a Toyota Corolla and a white panel van with stripes or markings at wheel height; either a Hyundai or a Mitsubishi.

‘We really do want to speak to the drivers of these vehicles as they would have seen the vehicle immediately prior to the crash,’ said RCIPS Sgt. Adrian Barnett of the Traffic Department.

‘If these vehicles did not turn off the road they may well have seen the collision itself as well,’ he said.

The drivers of these vehicles are asked to contact Sgt. Barnett at 946-6254 or 926-2204.
