Two Dutch nationals, a husband and wife, were picked up by a passing freighter Tuesday afternoon near Cayman Brac, after they radioed a distress signal indicating that their boat was sinking.
Cayman Brac, Customs and Immigration officials were on alert on receipt of the distress signal, said a GIS press release.
The original plan had been to tow the sinking vessel to West End, Cayman Brac, where the couple would have been transferred to a Cayman Brac Customs vessel and the boat towed into shore.
However, that plan was abandoned when the vessel sank while in tow.
The two continued on the freighter bound for Trinidad, where the couple will disembark, the release said.
