Million Dollar Run 2006 was a success at Kaibo on Easter Monday, drawing more than 2,500 people to watch the powerboat poker run.
Capping off a day of race excitement, stage antics, charity raffles, music and fun, Captain Attlee Bodden walked away with the coveted Best Time trophy.
Racing an Italian custom-designed craft by Fabio Buzzi, Bodden with throttle man Jorn Talberg ran the Million Dollar Run course in record time. Mr. Bodden won the Outlaw Class trophy in 2005.
Directly following Bodden was Andreas Ugland Sr., 2004’s champion. The Best Time trophy was sponsored by Crighton Properties.
Borrowing elements from poker runs, Million Dollar Run also sees the captains collecting cards from various stops to form a hand.
Collecting card one from Kaibo, card two from The Ritz-Carlton Intrepid on Seven Mile Beach and the final three back at Kaibo, this winner is deemed the Million Dollar Man.
Best Hand two years running went to Captain Axel Ugland, who also won the Outlaw Class trophy. The Outlaw Class trophy is sponsored by Vampt Motors Jaguar.
Watler’s Metal Products presented Best Crew, an award for team spirit and presentation, to the team of Gary Mullings and Paul Rausfau. The two had a crew consisting of all females who wore Million Dollar Run regalia.
Finally, a new award for 2006, Best Craft went to the team of Bob Watler who raced a brand new 825 horsepower Donzi. The boat gleamed with a stunning yellow, purple and blue paint job. The award was presented by sponsors Natalie and Jerome Bigot of Cayman Islands Helicopters.
