The Red Dress Affair 2006 is scheduled for Wednesday, 14 June at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.
The event has become an annual fundraising event for the Cancer Society and is now one of the most anticipated events on the community calendar.
The event is presented by the Cayman Islands Cancer Society, The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, and Baptist Health South Florida.
The Red Dress is the international symbol of awareness of heart disease – the No. 1 killer of women. Many of the risk factors for heart disease are lifestyle related and are also risk factors for other chronic diseases such as cancer.
‘This is a good opportunity for everyone in the community to hear about lifestyle changes they can make which will have a positive impact on their health,’ said Dr. Sook Yin, medical director of the Society.
Jean Cohen, vice president and general manager of the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, said the resort is pleased to be a partner in the event.
‘The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman is pleased to be the host for this year’s Cancer Society Red Dress Affair, a combination of education, health and fashion. We are looking forward to developing a partnership with the Cancer Society to bring top quality health education to the Cayman Islands so we can all make better lifestyle choices to positively impact our health long-term. Since this event offers very useful information in a fun and entertaining atmosphere, we look forward to a well-attended function.’
The traditional Red Dress Affair event is an evening of health, education, fashion and fun. New to this year’s Affair are a ladies’ luncheon and presentations at the evening Affair of interest to both men and women.
Christine Sanders, General Manage and Education Officer of the Society, says that they have decided, based on feedback from previous years, to make the evening Affair more inclusive of men. This will be reflected in the exhibitors and presentations throughout the evening.
The Red Dress Affair event will begin at 5:30pm with a cocktail reception hosted by The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman and Baptist Health South Florida. During the cocktail reception there will be free health screenings as well as exhibitions promoting healthy lifestyles.
Immediately following the reception there will be two presentations by guest speakers provided by Baptist Health South Florida.
The evening will conclude with a fashion show by Le Classique. A silent auction will be ongoing throughout the evening. As in previous years, there is no charge to attend the evening Affair but the Society is asking for donations of $25.
The luncheon affair begins at 11am at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. In addition to health screenings, there will be a presentation on heart disease in women in remembrance of the traditional theme of Red Dress events around the world.
Tickets are $40 and are on sale at the Cancer Society office.
