CITA recognises tourism employees

The Cayman Islands Tourism Association will recognise and reward tourism managers and employees at their third Annual Cayman Stingray Tourism Awards Gala on 3 November, 2006.

The Cayman Stingray Tourism Award, the highest honor bestowed by CITA, recognizes the persons who have excelled in Cayman Islands tourism operations and have made the greatest contribution to the interests and well being of the association’s affairs and the islands’ hospitality industry during the year, said a CITA press release.

‘I look forward to receiving the nominations that recognise the efforts of the people that work in our most vital industry, tourism’ said Mrs. Jo-Anne Brown, Chairperson, CITA’S Training, Education and Scholarship Committee.

Member companies and employees of CITA can nominate an employee or a manager for an award in the accommodation, transportation, restaurant, water sports or allied industries. Persons who are nominated must have proven themselves to be a leader or possess the potential to become a good leader; they must be knowledgeable about the tourism industry; and have demonstrated their involvement within the workplace and their community.

This year, CITA will recognise rising young stars in the tourism industry with a new award category. Appropriately named, ‘The Rising Star’ award will be given to a young Caymanian whose contribution to the tourism industry exemplifies excellence at an early point in their career that can be carried through to the rest of their life, the release explained.

‘2006 is the year for celebrating the gains made in tourism and this year’s gala is set to be an evening that all will remember,’ said the press release.

On November 3, 2006, The Cayman Stingray Tourism Award Gala will take place at the Ritz Carlton, Grand Cayman. Door prizes that can be won include tickets to Cayman Jazz Fest and tickets to London, Heathrow on British Airways.

During the month of September and early October local businesses can support this event through a variety of sponsorship opportunities. Further information on sponsorships and community involvement can be obtained from the CITA office.

Nomination forms, rules, and guidelines for the 2006 Cayman Tourism Stingray Awards are available from Mr. Ken Thompson, Executive Director of CITA, by calling 949 8522. All nominations are due to the CITA office on or before October 5, 2006.
