MLA Osbourne Bodden spoke out in light of a full-page ad taken out by dms Broadcasting president Don Seymour in both of Cayman’s daily newspapers.
The ad castigates the government for criticizing some of the content on the company’s radio stations.
Mr. Bodden was named specifically in the letter which refers to a show discussing sexual matters, which Mr. Seymour contends contained no explicit or graphic sexual depictions, vile, foul or offensive language.
‘In relation to Mr. Seymour’s full page ads in both of today’s papers, he can rest assured that this is not a personal vendetta against the dms group of companies,’ said Mr. Bodden.
‘Rather, this is something that I have brought up on several previous occasions in relation to radio content in shows in Cayman in general,’ he said.
‘There are a lot of explicit lyrics in songs and in talk shows, in particular morning talk shows, that would best be either aired late at night, or, in relation to the songs, best probably not aired at all.’
‘I and our government have no intention of going after Mr. Seymour. My remarks are simply an expression of our dissatisfaction with the level and the standard of what we are hearing on the airwaves.’
‘Mr. Seymour should have no fear of being victimized or anything like that,’ he assured.
But Mr. Bodden did remark that, ‘I made my comments and as the old adage goes, if you throw a rock in a pigpen, the one that squeals is the one that got hit, and that’s all I have to say.’
