More than two-thirds of the respondents of the latest caycompass.com online poll would not have fired former Health Services Authority CEO Craig Brown.
If fact, almost half of the 186 respondents (91 votes, or 48.9 per cent) would not have done a thing to Mr. Brown because they do not believe he did anything wrong.
Mr. Brown was recently dismissed only six months into a three-year contract, partially for the way he handled the firing of former HSA Chief Operating Officer Cathy Gomez.
Only 26 poll respondents (14 per cent) agreed with Mr. Brown’s firing.
Fourteen people (7.5 per cent) said Mr. Brown should have been given a stern warning and another chance, while 23 respondents (12.4 per cent) believed Mr. Brown should have been supported, but asked to tone down his management style.
An additional nine people (4.8 per cent) said they did not know what to do with Mr. Brown, while 23 respondents (12.4 per cent) did not know who Mr. Brown was.
In total, 128 people (78.5 per cent) out of the 163 that knew who Mr. Brown was believed he should not have been fired.
No one who thought it was right to fire Mr. Brown commented on why; however, many people who disagreed with the firing made comments.
‘I think the HSA Board is irresponsible and should all be fired,’ said one respondent.
‘Firing him was not a wise move,’ said another respondent.
‘He did his job and he did it well,’ said a respondent who believed Mr. Brown did nothing wrong. ‘Cayman has made a big mistake and who will pay for it? The younger generation – with their lives. A big price for a big mistake.’
‘What the HSA board did to this man is a national disgrace,’ said another person. ‘The HSA is doomed to be an ineffective money pit.’
‘I believe that (Mr. Brown) was only acting on the mandate given to him by the board,’ said someone else.
One person believed Mr. Brown should be rehired.
‘Get him back! His changes will benefit the health system and the entire country,’ the respondent said. ‘There’s too much deadwood in the system and ousting it will make the system more efficient.’
