As an exciting and colourful part of the Cayman Islands, dominoes is played from the front porch to the shade of the mango trees and in every little rum shop from West Bay to North Side. Cayman’s National Dominoes Tournament was a little different in that it was a mental dominos tournament, no coding, no talking, no drinking or eating allowed, and participants couldn’t hold their dominos in their hands.

The top-placing Ladies Team was the ‘Girls Rock’ team of Oleta Elliott and Marcia Myles. While they didn’t place in the Semifinals, they still won CI$500. The third place team of ‘Happy Grove’ members Arthur Walters and Trevor McIntosh won CI$500. The CI$1,000 second place prize went to the ‘Bay Island Shottas,’ Chris Welcome and Elvis Cook. The champions of Cayman’s National Dominos Tournament are Gilbut Gray and Howard Morrisson of the team ‘Unstoppable.’ ‘Unstoppable’ walked away with CI$2,500 in prize money. All winning teams were also presented with a box of custom designed Rooster 101 dominos.

Organizers were pleased with the turnout for this first-ever National Tournament. Plans are in progress already to make next year’s event bigger and better.
