Cash taken from NS shop
Police are searching for two men who investigators said were involved in an armed robbery at Chisholm’s Supermarket on the island’s North Side.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Services said the cashier at the market on North Side Road near Hutland Road reported the heist around 3.30pm Friday. The worker said one man walked into the store with what looked like a handgun, and demanded cash.
After getting the money, witnesses said the man left the store in a small white vehicle with another suspect.
‘My granddaughter was at the cash register,’ said store owner Erena Ebanks. ‘She opened the cash register and told him to take it. He took it and ran.’
Mrs. Ebanks also said the robbery suspect demanded cigarettes.
Police officers chased the getaway car to a dirt track in the Breakers area where it crashed. Officers recovered the vehicle, but the suspects got away.
Extensive police searches with K-9 units and a helicopter turned up nothing else on Friday.
Police described the getaway vehicle driver as about 5 feet 9 inches tall and slender with dark hair and a very dark complexion. The suspected robber was described as having a medium brown complexion, and a medium build. He was also thought to have a goatee. Witnesses said he was about 5 feet 9 inches or 5 feet 10 inches.
RCIPS asks members of the public not to approach these men if they are spotted as they could be armed and dangerous. Police advise anyone seeing the men to call 911 immediately.
