Policy shouldn’t be retroactive

The rollover policy is a good one and is fully justified.

One can argue about the lengths of time chosen but those are moot points.

What is a problem is that the law is retroactive and affects persons who came here with other expectations.

Bermuda recognised this and framed its policy in 2001 and starts actions under the policy in 2007.

No law or policy should be retroactive.

A very valuable part of my family business in Guyana was nationalised illegally by the Burnham government who then passed an amendment to the law which retroactively allowed it.

This is a power that no politician or political group should have anywhere in our world.
