Arrests made in Chisholm’s heist

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said Wednesday two suspects had been arrested in relation to a 19 January robbery at Chisholm’s Supermarket on the island’s North Side.

The men were arrested at their respective home addresses in George Town and in North Side. One was nabbed the week after the robbery. The other was arrested last week.

The suspects, aged 23 and 28, have been released on police bail and have not been charged to date in connection with the incident.

The market employee who reported the Friday afternoon heist said one man walked into the store with what appeared to be a handgun, and demanded cash and cigarettes.

After getting the money and smokes, the worker told police the robbery suspect left the store and got into a small white vehicle with another man.

RCIPS officers chased the getaway car to a dirt track in the Breakers area where it wrecked. Officers recovered the vehicle immediately, but the suspects managed to temporarily escape.

‘We don’t know how they got away,’ said RCIPS spokesperson Deborah Denis.

Anyone with information about the market robbery is asked to contact DC Colin Oremule at Bodden Town CID on 947-2220, or they can call Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS).
