Big equipment obstructing traffic

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Services is asking workers on construction sites to be more considerate when moving heavy equipment from one site to another.

The police and the government are receiving numerous complaints from motorists relating to construction sites stopping traffic during rush-hour to allow heavy goods vehicles onto the road. This practice is very obstructive to the flow of traffic and has been causing major disruption to traffic flow, particularly on the West Bay Road.

This inconvenient practice has been addressed in the past but appears to be emerging once again.

‘Officers will be patrolling the roads and stopping to speak with construction company operators about this issue,’ said Public Relations Officer, Deborah Denis. ‘We will be asking companies operating on busy thoroughfares to avoid traffic gridlock during peak times by scheduling these activities during reasonable periods.’
