Cycle light giveaway big success

A cycle light giveaway organised by the RCIPS and made possible thanks to Uncle Bills and Comfort Suites Grand Cayman was a huge success.

Last Thursday, 100 front and rear lights, donated by the Home Improvement Centre, were fixed by police officers to bikes that owners brought to the car park at Comfort Suits on West Bay Road, says an RCIPS press release.

West Bay Road Neighbourhood Policing Officer Ondine Bult organised the event and says she never expected the response.

‘The idea was to ensure that cyclists using the West Bay Road do so safely and I was delighted to see so many people come along to have the lights fitted.’

Those attending also received a Crimestoppers T-shirt and advice on how to ride safely on the roads.

The exercise was designed to raise awareness of how important having operational lights on bikes is and also to let people know that those who fail to use lights could result in being fined, the release said.

‘We were overwhelmed with the number of people that attended and many had to leave empty handed as the lights ran out,’ said PC Bult.

‘I am advising those people to make sure they invest in lights as they really can make a difference between life and death.’
