Mundy back at Fidel Murphy’s

St. Patrick’s Day is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than with some live music by one of Ireland’s most popular singer.

Mundy is making a return to Fidel Murphy’s Irish Pub on West Bay Road, for two free concerts. He performed last St. Patrick’s Day at the pub in front of a packed out crowd.

The artist will take to the stage on St. Patrick’s Day – this Saturday. Local band Paradise will warm up the crowds from 6.30pm with a selection of popular Scottish and Irish tunes. Mundy is set to take to perform from 8.30pm.

Start off the day watching Ireland, the newly installed favourites for the Six Nations trophy, on the big screen. From 8.30am, watch Ireland play against Italy, followed by France versus Scotland and Wales against England for an action-packed day.

A pre-St. Patrick’s Day party will be held tonight with Mundy taking to the stage from 8pm. The evening will kick-off with a free happy hour buffet from 5pm and drink specials throughout the night.

‘Mundy was a massive hit last year,’ said David Doherty, chef and manager at Fidel Murphy’s. ‘Everyone has been asking me when he is next coming back.’

As the event is free, Mr. Doherty recommends everyone gets there early.

‘Don’t leave it to the last minute. Last year we were packed and we are expecting it to be even busier this year. I recommend everyone gets to the pub early, especially if they want a good spot.’

Mundy first emerged on the music scene in 1996. He was quickly snapped up by Sony Music, who released his debut album, Jellylegs. World tours followed, including dates with Neil Young, Van Morrisson and Alanis Morrisette. More recently he’s played shows with Lucinda Williams, Jimmy Webb, The White Stripes and Oasis in Dublin.

Mundy’s latest album, Live & Confusion, released in May 2006, has exceeded platinum sales in Ireland and remained high in the charts since.

Other albums include 24 Star Hotel and Raining Down Arrows, which entered the Irish charts at number one.

The artist has had numerous hits, including Mexico, July, By Her Side and 10,000 Miles Away From Harm.

In keeping with St. Patrick’s Day, the pub will have a special Irish menu for the day, including traditional Irish dishes such as, steamed cockles and mussels, traditional Irish Lamb stew, Dublin coddle, beef and Guiness pie and bacon and cabbage with parsley sauce.

There will be drink specials throughout the day on buckets of Bud and Bud Lite. The pub will open at 7.30am on the Saturday for the rugby Six Nations finals.
