Two American business partners who keep a home on Grand Cayman’s north shore got a nasty shock when they arrived at their property late Wednesday afternoon.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said the two found a man in their house; a man who police said was staying there without permission.
Investigators said the intruder pulled a knife on the pair and then fled using the White Toyota Corolla the two men had rented after arriving on the island.
A 34-year-old man, who police said was from Bodden Town, was arrested at 1:30am Thursday in connection with the incident. The arrest occurred about eight and a half hours after the intruder was discovered in the home on Barefoot Beach.
The American businessmen, who do not permanently reside in Cayman, were not hurt by the knife-wielding suspect. However, one of the men did suffer a minor hand injury in a fall while he was running away from the intruder.
Police could not immediately state how long the man might have been living at the home, which is located in a remote area of Queens Highway in the northern section of East End district.
An RCIPS spokesperson said it’s believed the businessmen had not been at the house for perhaps a month or more.
Police were also looking into whether any items had been taken from the house by the man who was staying there.
