The people of the Cayman Islands will have one final chance to watch Charles Whittaker, current NBA Jr Middleweight World Title holder, in his last home bout, set for Saturday, 21 April at the Lions Centre.
Whittaker is set to fight Florida native, Jerome Ellis for the vacant North American Boxing Organization (NABO) belt. Ellis, who’s current record includes 14 wins, 5 losses with 11 knockouts, is known for his aggressive style. Words from the Ellis camp promise to knockout Whittaker: ‘I’m going to decapitate him and take his title,’ vowed Ellis. ‘I’ll hand him his head back at the end of the night.’
Upon hearing the remarks from the Ellis camp, Whittaker smiled with confidence, saying, ‘I’ve heard that before. Didn’t Billy Lyell say he would wear me out too?’
Since winning the NBA Jr Middleweight title last September, Whittaker is hungry to gain the NABO title, an achievement that will propel him closer to fighting the top ranking professionals in his weight division.
The champ’s September victory to a crowded house of over 2000 boxing fans convinced Whittaker to have one last fight in his home country. ‘The response and support of the people is overwhelming,’ Whittaker stated. ‘I’m doing this fight for them.’
Whittaker’s promotional company, KnockOut Productions, is the organizing body behind the upcoming live professional boxing event titled ‘Triumph’. The evening is set to include three professional bouts and an exhibition by the Cayman Islands Amateur Boxing Association.
