Batabano food handlers need certification

All individuals planning to serve food or manage food stalls during the 2007 Batabano Carnival are encouraged to update their food handler’s certification with the Department of Environmental Health, a GIS release advised.

A basic food handler’s course is scheduled for Wednesday, 2 May.

Certification is for three years, and persons who want to continue as food handlers should renew the certification once it expires. All food handlers needing certification are encouraged to register.

The course will run from 9am to 4pm at the DEH’s Cayman Islands Environmental Centre at 580 North Sound Road. The $15 registration includes accompanying literature.

Course graduates will know how to prevent food-borne illness and the spread of disease, the advisory added.

For more information and to register, call the DEH at 949-6696.
