Exercise, sensible eating, safe sex and avoiding risky behaviours such as drugs and alcohol were the messages driven home at the recent Health Fair at Dart Park.
The free event was a community service project of the Rotary Sunrise Club in collaboration with the Cayman Islands Cancer Society. Children and the young at heart enjoyed a family day in the park and took advantage of the professionals on hand at the various booths.
The Cayman Islands Cancer Society’s booth featured information on the health effects of smoking. Children also played a number of interactive games that involved exercise as well as guessing the food groups of various foods.
RCIPS representatives from the DARE programme were on hand to promote a drug free lifestyle, which was the message also delivered by the National Drug Council.
Adults in attendance had the opportunity for a number of free health screenings provided by Generali Worldwide and Cayman Insurance Centre.
Cayman Aids Foundation’s booth featured balloon tying – one of the hits of the fair. Dr. Bert Thacker, a dentist from Smiles, was on hand with his puppet Luigi to teach children about the importance of oral hygiene and the Public Health Department provided information on nutrition.
The Ritz-Carlton’s Ambassadors of the Environment camp had children doing arts and crafts using recycled materials.
Additionally children were able to enjoy all the fun of the fair with face painting, a bouncing castle, popcorn, snow cones and more. They also went home with a number of goodies distributed by the various exhibitors.
