Cayman volleyball reaches new heights

The Cayman Islands Volleyball Federation (CIVF) achieved a highpoint last month by winning gold in the men’s doubles beach volleyball event at Island Games in Rhodes, Greece. The powerful pair of Shervin Rankin and Bero Bobus wowed the crowd as they defeated Gotland Island (Sweden) in the final. Rhodes took the bronze.

Cayman Islands volleyball was also represented by a women’s beach doubles team comprised of Wanda Brenton and Tiffany Maier, who managed a respectable 4th place finish in a pool of outstanding female athletes. The men’s indoor volleyball team came away with a 5th place finish and the women’s indoor team 13th. CIVF officials have thanked the Island Games Association, the community and sponsors: Greenlight RE, Cayman National Bank, Scotiabank, Maples & Calder, Walkers, Kensington Management, RSM Cayman Islands, UBS, CITCO, Fidelity, Campbells Law Firm, Caribbean Utilities Company and the Water Authority. Noel Williams, CIVF president, thanked all players, coaches, managers and supporters for their ‘outstanding’ efforts at the Games. The Cayman Islands finished 8th place overall out of 25 island nations in the medal count.
