Trial date set in hand-severing

A man police allege was behind a machete attack that left the victim requiring surgery to reattach one hand will face Grand Court 5 September.

Henricho Everton Swaby, 34, will face charges of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm and assault causing actual bodily harm, after Magistrate Grace Donalds ruled there was sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to a Grand Court trial.

The court did not deal with a related kidnapping charge that was listed for preliminary enquiry.

Swaby was remanded in custody after the short-form preliminary enquiry Monday.

Swaby is alleged to have committed the offences at the Compass Centre car-park at around 9.30pm on 1 June 2007.

The attempted murder and unlawfully inflicting grievous bodily harm charges are both alleged to have been committed against Marlene Smith, while the charge of causing actual bodily harm is alleged to have been committed against Krystal Ebanks.

Swaby did not make any comment to the court during the preliminary inquiry.
