Humane Society backs decision

The Cayman Islands Humane Society wishes to express its support of the decision taken by the American National Football League, together with the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism to cancel the Quarterback Challenge scheduled to be aired recently.

The programme, filmed exclusively in the Cayman Islands, featured quarterback Michael Vick, who is charged with financing and running an illegal dog fighting ring in the USA.

It is a message to the nation and to the world that the Cayman Islands will not tolerate animal abuse and any association with such crimes will not be accepted.

Dog fighting is brutal and cruel; dogs are trained violently and die violently for the pleasure of a depraved few. A dog is man’s best friend, a companion that is loyal and true to a good owner, dogs are willing to learn and are happy to please. They deserve to live out their lives free from pain and free from fear. They have so much to give and ask for so little in return except our love and compassion.

Our thoughts are with all those animals that have been, and those that still are, subjected to cruelty, neglect and abuse.
