Hellcats keep record going

The playoffs got under way in the Zulu’s Cayman Islands Flag Football League on Saturday at the Triple C field and the whole afternoon went pretty well to script.

In the curtain raiser Margaritaville West Bay Hellcats continued their undefeated streak with a 27-0 whitewashing of P.W.C. Chargers. Hellcats came at the Chargers right from the onset and built a 21-0 half time lead in cruising to the victory. For the Hellcats it was a total team effort as the offense, special teams and defense scored.

Next Level had all they could handle in beating WestTel Giants in the second Western Conference semi-final. WestTel still battling injuries and manpower issues hung in tough and Next Level escaped with a 7-0 victory. The Nightmares may have been looking ahead to next week’s conference final against Margaritaville. Next Level want to avenge two regular season loses to West Bay.

In the East, Digicel missing some key players, narrowly escaped with a 9-7 victory over the defending champs AL Thompson’s Hammers. The game was tied 7-7 late in the second half when AL Thompson’s QB Kevin Solomon was called for intentionally grounding the ball in his own end zone which resulted in a two point safety giving Digicel victory.

In the day’s final game Hammerheads playing without starting QB Nolan Karrum didn’t miss a beat in shutting out Maples and Calder 13-0. Keswick Wright filled in admirably at QB and led the Sharks to victory. Sean Moyle had a hard time kick- starting the Maple’s offense and just couldn’t sustain a drive to get the ball in the end zone.

The conference finals are set for this weekend with Margaritaville taking on Next level in the West while Hammerheads and Digicel meet in the East.
