Her Majesty’s Cayman Islands Prisons Service (HMCIPS) is hosting the sixth annual Triangular Series cricket tournament, a series in which prison staff from Bermuda, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands have traditionally vied for the Challenge Trophy.
Sponsored by the Cayman Islands Brewery, the action will take place this week (Wednesday, 26 September and Friday, 28 September, starting at 10:30 a.m). The finals will be on Saturday, 29 September. All games will be held at the Smith Road Oval.
‘This tournament is a great opportunity to forge ties among Caribbean prisons,’ said HMP’s Education Coordinator Natalie Joseph-Caesar. ‘However, this year the competition is between Cayman and Bermuda, as the Jamaican team is unable to attend because of other obligations.’
She encouraged all cricket lovers to come out and support the teams. ‘In addition to the game, the Prisons Service will offer a family fun day on Saturday, 29 September, starting at noon, so that everyone can be a part of this event. We will have activities for children, as well as food and beverages,’ she said.
The team from Bermuda arrived on Saturday, 22 September, and visited Boatswain’s Beach and the eastern districts on Sunday, 23 September. They will also tour the Cayman Islands Brewery on Thursday 27 September at 10:00 am.
‘Her Majesty’s Prisons Cayman thank the major sponsor for this event, Caybrew, because they enabled us to show the Bermuda team all that our beautiful islands have to offer. We could not have done it without your assistance,’ concluded Ms Ceasar.
This tournament started in 2002, with participants from Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. A year later, Bermuda enthusiastically joined the cricket tournament, inspiring the name the Triangular Series.
Since its inception, the Cayman Islands and Jamaica have each hosted the games twice, with HMP Cayman winning the Challenge Trophy three times.
