Friends of local man Clifton ‘Cliffy’ Williams will host a fish tea cooking competition and family fund day this Saturday on Seven Mile Public Beach to raise money for their friend, who is recovering from pancreatitis.
Mr. Williams suddenly became ill in March and had to undergo life threatening emergency surgery at George Town Hospital. Self-employed at the time, Mr. Williams did not have medical insurance. Although he is now making an impressive recovery, Mr. Williams has another obstacle to overcome – a $30,000 hospital bill.
Friends say the diagnosis of pancreatitis was all the stranger for the fact that Mr. Williams is a religious person who does not drink alcohol, is a strict vegetarian, and has always eschewed junk food.
The fundraising day kicks off at 2pm. In addition to the fish tea cooking competition, there will be food and pony rides available for $5, as well as speed boat, wave runner, banana boat and glass bottom boat rides at $15.
Donations can also be made to the fundraiser for Cliffy charity account at the Bank of Butterfield, account number 02-201 124004.
