Cayman’s seven-a-side rugby side is in strict training for the Caribbean championships in the Bahamas next month.
They will play a series of practice game at the club ground on Saturday, as preparation for the big event.
Club members have put together their own sevens sides to give Cayman a workout. They include South Africans, Australians, New Zealanders and an England team. They will butt heads from 2pm in a round robin and will do it again the following Saturday at the same time. It should be quite a spectacle as sevens is faster and more flowing than the regulation 15s. So anyone with some spare time who wants to see a speedier version of the traditional format, should get down to the club at South Sound.
James Geary has been so good in training he looks set to be a surprise package in the squad. The 17-year-old’s pace could be a crucial factor in Bahamas which runs from 17-18 November.
It’s a busy time at the rugby club. There was a men’s game last night, the old boys engaged in ‘Knackerfest’ and the women’s side is preparing for a tour to Miami in November. The boys and girls Under-19s are still training every Monday at 3.30pm.
