An eating contest and cooking demonstrations are just some of the activities planned for Conchquest, this Saturday at Macabuca at the Cracked Conch, West Bay.
Among other activities, Progressive Distributors will be showcasing their delicious new home-made conch sausage, and the Department of Environment will be on hand to answer any questions on conch and Cayman’s marine laws.
Cracked Conch Head Chef Berni, will be demonstrating different ways to prepare conch. The day will culminate with the official Cayman Islands conch fritter eating contest.
A grand prize of $1000 and a beautiful hand-blown glass conch shell valued at $500 are up for grabs for all enthusiastic eaters. The free event, hosted by 96.5 CAYROCK is designed as a celebration of conch in the Cayman Islands.
96.5 CAYROCK Programme Director and Morning Show Host Ben Maxwell said they are hoping to attract both local and international entrants.
‘Would-be entrants will need to prove they can chow down with the best of them – either live on-air or with photographic evidence. The current conch fritter eating record is 45 fritters in six minutes – held by ‘Gentleman’ Joe Menchetti.
