Stride Against Cancer date announced

The Cayman Islands Cancer Society plans to hold its annual Stride Against Cancer fundraising event on Sunday, January 27th, 2008. The Society also announced that the School Stride will be held on Friday, January 25th and they are encouraging all schools to participate. The net proceeds of the Stride Against Cancer weekend is one of the Society’s biggest fundraising events and is used to help cancer patients and their families with cancer treatment related expenses not covered by health insurance.

Stride Against Cancer will begin and end at the Public Beach on West Bay Road. The event attracts walkers and runners of all ages and abilities and is a non-competitive event. Participants have the option of walking or running either the long course (13.1 miles) or a short course (6.5 miles).

The organizers have also announced that there are a number of sponsorship opportunities available for the event including sponsoring an aid station or banner, media sponsorship, and other levels of contribution. Sponsorship opportunities begin for as little as $250 and a complete package detailing all levels of sponsorship is available from the Cancer Society.

Confirmed sponsors of the event include Progressive Distributors Limited and several of their product brands including Gatorade, Hawaiian Tropic, Le Bleu, Ocean Spray, Quaker and Tropicana. Additional sponsors are Fosters Food Fair IGA, Digicel, Sagicor, Rooster 101, Z99, and BB&P.

Registration for the walk will begin on January 2nd and delivery of registration packets will be arranged to corporations, providing registration information is received by January 22nd. Registration will cost $25.

The Cayman Islands Cancer Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing the development of cancer through its education programs and screening initiatives as well as to providing financial assistance to cancer patients and their families with treatment related expenses. The Society also offers counseling and support to cancer patients and their families. The Society funds its programs through donations and fundraising events.
