East End rises as Foster’s CIFA Football gets into high gear

East End blanked George Town 2-0 as action continued last Sunday in the Foster’s Cayman Island Football Association National League competition at two separate playing fields.

Scoring for East End were Bryan Lewis and Rico Bodden in the 12th and 52nd minute respectively.

East End has been revived since the involvement of Coach Thiago Cunha who has been putting out extraordinary effort in getting this team to a higher level.

Presently, he has recruited the experienced midfielder Marcos Faria Leite to strengthen the team. Leite is from Brazil where he has played professional football for teams such as Santos Football Club and has rubbed shoulders on the field of play with players with the likes of Ronaldino, Kaka, Elano and many other professional players.

Leite made his entry as a midfielder last Sunday and created an impression on the players and spectators although he has not been training with the team for more than two weeks.

East End last won the FA Cup in 1996. Since then they have not done anything spectacular but seem to be ready to do something this season.

In other games played elsewhere, Tigers, the present leaders in the point standings having garnered seven points, drew 1-1 with Sunset. Arnold Andrade scored in the 48th minute for Tigers and Martin Ward netted for Sunset in 85th minute.

Defending champions Scholars struggled to beat Academy 2-0 with goals coming from Maurice Brown and Renee Carter in the 50th and 88th minute respectively.

Greg Carridice’s 75th minute goal landed and Roma a 1-0 victory against Bodden Town.

Games are scheduled to continue this weekend.
