The fire broke out on the balcony of an office above the Big Daddy’s Liquor Store shortly before 9am.

Sub Officer Percival Whorms of the Cayman Islands Fire Service said it was not clear what sparked the blaze, which broke out in construction materials on the office’s western balcony.

Mr. Whorms said it took fire crews less than two minutes to extinguish the fire.

One woman that was in the office at the time of the blaze walked from the building without injury. About 15 employees of the adjoining Cayman National Bank branch were evacuated from the building as a precaution, but said their building was unaffected by the fire.
