An 18-year-old man was shot to death Monday night at his home in an area known as the Swamp in George Town.
Residents in the area identified the dead man as Josh Hooker.
Witnesses said Mr. Hooker was found inside his home on Kennedy Drive after his mother heard a child inside crying.
The 911 Emergency Communications Centre received a call around 11.15pm from the woman reporting that she had found her son unconscious and bleeding.
Police and medics responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Leford Clarke lives next door to the home where the shooting occurred and said he had spoken to Mr. Hooker around 9pm Monday.
He said he didn’t hear any shots, but realised something was wrong when police showed up around 11.20pm.
‘I asked his mother ‘where you was’?’ Mr. Clarke said. ‘And after the baby been balling she said she went in and looked, and the guy was lying on the floor.’
A major incident room has been established at George Town Police Station and a team of experienced detectives assigned to the investigation.
‘The early stages of a murder investigation are critical and we need to gather as much information as possible. We need to hear from anyone who was in the area of Kennedy Drive between 10.30 and 11.30 who has not yet spoken to a police officer. Even if something seems insignificant to you, it could be important to us,’ said Senior Investigating Officer, Chief Inspector Peter Kennett from the CID Criminal Investigation Department.
Anyone with information should contact detectives in the CID at George Town Police Station on 949-4222 or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 (TIPS). All persons calling crime stoppers can remain anonymous and are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000, should their information lead to an arrest or recovery of property/drugs.
