Cable & Wireless recently recognised two staff members for their outstanding service to the company during 2007.
Chief Executive Tim Adam presented the coveted Chief Executive’s Award for Excellence to Donnie Forbes, network operations manager for his excellent performance, leadership, friendliness and willingness to go above the call of duty to assist both customers and his colleagues. Mr. Forbes received a plaque and cash award.
Mr. Adam acknowledged that despite many challenges in 2007 many staff members performed exceptionally, which made the decision of selecting one recipient extremely difficult.
‘There were many worthy winners; however, Mr. Forbes is a very deserving candidate. He exemplifies dependability, competence, versatility, and teamwork. His unfailing determination has ensured high reliability and quality of service to our customers and the community at large.’
The Chief Executive’s Award for Excellence is given each year to a member of staff in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the company and the community it serves.
‘This award is a platform to highlight a role model of excellence from amongst our staff,’ Mr. Adam said.
He summarised why Mr. Forbes was chosen.
‘His leadership of our Crisis Management Team during the threat and approach of Hurricane Dean is commendable. He also successfully managed the Cayman Jamaica Fibre System upgrade project that delivered great value to customers and the company’s operations in the Cayman Islands and Jamaica. Donnie is a great leader and team player who is always willing to help.’
Mr. Forbes has worked with Cable & Wireless for 22 years and took on responsibility for his present role in 2003.
Also recognized was the recipient of the Be Helpful Award, which recognises an employee who exemplifies the company’s vision, “to be the friendly expert team helping people communicate”, while demonstrating professionalism and a conscientious approach in all aspects of their work and team spirit through out the year. The nomination process was open to all staff and the winner was chosen from many worthy candidates. The Award was presented to Mr. Kevin Clarke, a Broadband engineer who has worked with the company for the past 11 years.
‘I am very proud to have Kevin as a part of our team. He is the kind of employee who cares deeply about the company and the work that he does. He is highly respected by his peers and his contributions to the work of Cable & Wireless are invaluable. Kevin is always approachable, friendly and willing to help whether it is a fellow employee or a customer,’ said Mr. Adam.
‘Kevin’s work over the past year has been remarkable. He has contributed significantly to the success of many projects such as the two major upgrades to our Broadband service, and as a result all our Broadband customers now enjoy a minimum of 1 Megabit per second and the option of speeds as fast as 6 Megabits per second over regular phone lines. Kevin believes in getting it right the first time and this is reflected in the quality of his work.’
Both award recipients work in the company’s Network Services department lead by Vice President Albert Anderson.
