The 2008 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition hit newsstands last week featuring the Cayman Islands as the backdrop for an 11 page photo spread.
Also, there is a full page dedicated to the attractions and activities in the destination.
The Department of Tourism, Cayman Airways and private sector partners worked closely with the crew from Sports Illustrated to make this photo shoot a success, said a press release.
Three of Sports Illustrated’s top models visited Grand Cayman for the nine-day photo shoot in November, including Cayman’s own Selita Ebanks. Veronica Verakova and Daniella Sarahyba were the other two models and they all teamed up with the SI photo crew to shoot at some of the island’s most unique and recognizable land marks – Seven Mile Beach, the Westin Casuarina Resort, the Jolly Roger Pirate Ship and Rum Point, among others.
Minister for Tourism Charles Clifford said, ‘I was absolutely delighted to welcome Selita back home. It is always rewarding to see Caymanians excel in the international arena … but to see Selita not only excel, but use her success whenever she can to put the international spotlight on her home – the Cayman Islands – makes the reward all the more satisfying. I am proud of Selita and encourage her to take time off to come home and relax next time.’
Considered to be the most widely read magazine in the nation, the 2008 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition takes readers to exotic locations around the globe with the world’s most beautiful women. The 2007 issue was read by 67 million consumers, translating to one out of every three adults 18 plus years old picking up a copy.
In addition to the highly coveted spread, Cayman will also be featured on SI.com, the companion Web site to the magazine. SI.com will provide even more photos of the models along with additional coverage which will remain on the site until the 2009 issue is released. A ‘Behind the Scenes’ DVD will also be available for purchase by fans.
