The Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park will be free to residents in celebration of Earth Day. Visitors must show a valid Cayman Islands driver’s license.

Annual Roadside & Beach Clean-up. 7:00am. The 10th annual Chamber of Commerce Roadside Clean-up is from 7am to 11a.m. Volunteers can select from one of 40 different pre-selected areas or suggest a location of special concern. The first 750 volunteers will receive a t-shirt. Lunch will also be provided for all participants following the clean-up. National Gallery’s Annual Eco Party 8:30am – 10:30am. The National Gallery in conjunction with the Department of Environmental Health and the National Trust are once again hosting the free annual Eco Art Party in Dart Park in celebration of Earth Day. It is open to all kindergarten, primary, middle and high school-aged kids. Refreshments served. Participants are asked to bring to the art-making event clean items of refuse such as plastic bottles, cardboard containers, driftwood, and old and broken items or parts of items no longer being used. National Trust Guided Mastic Trail Hike. Experience a fascinating exploration deep into Cayman’s wild interior, in an area where the woodland has been evolving undisturbed for the last two million years. The area is home to a wide variety of animals and plants unique to the Cayman Islands. The trail is not suitable for children under six years old, the elderly and infirm, or for persons with physical handicaps or conditions that may require emergency medical assistance. National Trust Mangrove Boat Tour. A quiet guided boat tour through the beautiful mangrove forests that make up the Central Mangrove Wetlands, sponsored by Dive Tech. Water provided. CI$15.00 for Trust members, $20 for non-members.

Cayman Islands Tourism Association and Department of Environment Reef Watch Survey. This is a fun and scientifically useful event in which residents and visitors alike can get involved. Divers and snorkellers are asked to fill out surveys compiled by the DoE for inclusion in its database of Reef Watch Results stretching back to 1997. DEH School Clean-up Campaign for Earth Week. Are you a teacher/staff member of a school that is looking for an activity to promote Environmental Awareness this Earth Day? Are you looking for an activity do take part in during school hours? If your answer is yes, contact the Department of Environmental Health to take part in the DEH School Clean-Up campaign for Earth Week. This clean-up campaign is open to all schools, both private and public. The only requirements for participating are that the clean up must be during school hours, be open to all students to participate and the location of the clean-up can be the school or another designated location. What is there to Sea in the Grass? Tuesday, 2:30-4:30pm. Discover the wonderful world of seagrass with a presentation at the National Trust house followed by a snorkel across or walk along a seagrass meadow. The National Trust’s Coral Reef Exploration, 3-5pm. An interactive educational programme to allow Cayman’s youth to learn more about the dynamic underwater ecology of the Island. Cayman Wildlife Rescue’s Playtime for Parrots, Saturday at noon. A programme for children of all ages to build toys for rescued Cayman Parrots. Children will be provided with the tools, materials and instruction on how to build safe and fun toys for Cayman parrots. Suitable for ages 5 and up. Parrots chew and destroy their toys, so it is important we provide them with safe and non-toxic materials. The public can also contribute by donating the following supplies to the National Trust: One hundred per cent natural rope such as sea grass or cotton, rawhide dog chews, natural untreated leather, natural untreated wood scraps, baby chew toys, children’s wooden building blocks and dog squeak toys. Cayman Wildlife Rescue is a programme of the National Trust for the Cayman Islands staffed by volunteers and funded by public donations. The group rescues injured and orphaned native birds and animals for rehabilitation and releases them back into the wild. The group meets at the National Trust office at Dart Community Park in South Sound at 6.30pm on the 1st Thursday of every month. New members welcome and training is provided.
