Sergeant Daniel Lowe and Auxiliary Constable Brandaughn Phillips were returning to George Town Police Station from court when a staff member of the Caymania Duty Free store on Cardinal Avenue shouted to officers Wednesday morning.
When they looked, they spotted a man running from the store in the direction of Fort Street.
Officer Phillips, 22, gave chase and apprehended the man in the car park off Albert Panton Street. The man was arrested on suspicion theft, possession of ganja and consumption of controlled drugs.
‘I’d like to thank the people that assisted us with this incident,’ said Officer Phillips. ‘During the chase I dropped my hat and cuffs and these were collected by people passing by. It was very much appreciated.’
Following the incident, Sergeant Lowe commended Officer Phillips for his actions, commenting on his alertness and his speed.
