Children’s needs, concerns and wishes will take centre stage during May, when Child Month will again be celebrated in the Cayman Islands and around the world.
A range of activities are planned under the theme Through the Eyes of Our Children.
‘This theme reflects on the myriad of issues impacting our children. These include concerns about their health and well-being, as well as their social and psychological development,’ said Selena Dyke of the Department of Children and Family Services.
An annual DCFS initiative, Child Month is again being supported by several official and non-governmental agencies.
Activities will include a movie night, a Young Parents Programme family open day and evening concert, a Francis Bodden Girls Home Open House, and a Child Month Walk-a-Thon.
The month will also see special school events, district socials, a Child Expo, a professional child care seminar, movie nights and the established Caribbean School of the Deaf’s Hands in Praise concerts.
Cayman Brac’s festivities will include a church service, teen disco and the official opening of the Brac Youth Development Centre on 31 May.
Further details on these activities will be published in the local media. For more information call Child Month organiser Selena Dyke at the Department of Children and Family Services on 949-0290.
