Victim’s last hours crucial

Royal Cayman Islands Police are seeking more information about the final hours of 20-year-old Brian Rankine’s life.

The West Bay man was found dead in a parking lot around midnight Friday, the victim of an apparent machete attack. Investigators believe he was spotted in East End just hours before he turned up dead.

“We have sightings of him in East End but what was he wearing and how did he get to George Town? The journey is extremely crucial to the investigation and I appeal to anyone who can assist to please come forward,” RCIPS Chief Inspector Peter Kennett said.

Two men arrested Saturday in connection with the attack on Mr. Rankine are still in police custody and have not been charged. A car they were believed to be driving was discovered in West Bay and is undergoing forensic examination.

Mr. Rankine’s naked body was found in a George Town parking lot across the street from a church and just south of the Annex field. Witnesses at the scene did not report any disturbance in the lot prior to the victim’s body being found.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the George Town Police Station at 949-4222, or Crime Stoppers at 800-8477.
