James Orville Ebanks appeared in summary court on Thursday charged with theft of a 65-foot catamaran in May and a 44-foot tender in 2005.
The catamaran, Spirit of Calypso, was stolen 18-19 May from off Seven Mile Beach.
Ebanks, 46, was on board when the vessel was intercepted by the police boat Cayman Protector. Attorney John Furniss said he understood Ebanks was single-handedly sailing a boat that normally takes three or four people to control.
The charge sheet lists the value of the catamaran as CI$756,000.
Ebanks is also accused of stealing the tender Carib Wave 11-12 December 2005. The tender was valued at $78,860.
It was allegedly sold in Honduras for US$10,000.
Chief Magistrate Margaret Ramsay-Hale continued Ebanks’ remand in custody until 5 June.
