Residents wishing to take advantage of the land crab season should do so with safety in mind.
That’s the message from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, which is calling on people to make sure they are visible in the dark.
Generally, people hunt for crabs along the roadside at night and officers have seen people on the street who are not taking the necessary safety precautions such as wearing light or reflective clothing and carrying flash lights. In addition, vehicles have been left parked dangerously at the side of the road while the owners are hunting. Officers are asking all crab hunters to wear reflective clothing and park responsibility.
The RCIPS is also asking motorists to take extra care and be on the look out for people in the road during the night time hours.
