Kimbo’s loved by big kids too

Novice children’s author Jane Scaletta had a successful day in promoting her first book, Kimbo’s First Horse Show over the weekend.

She was at Books & Books all day selling the fabulous story of Kimbo, a little boy, and his experiences with horses.

Aimed for pre-teens, the illustrations are wonderful, done by Scaletta’s sister, Julia ‘Jools’ Theriault who is based in Ohio and a top designer.

Scaletta has always ridden and she felt writing the book and using Jools’ illustrative skills was a perfect synergy.

Scaletta is the communications secretary for the Cayman Islands Equestrian Federation and a lifelong horse rider.

‘This morning we had a story time and a craft and my daughter Ashley was my narrator,’ she said.

‘She was very good. I had a lot of positive comments on that. And we probably had about 10 or 11 children with their parents. They loved the craft. They cut out Kimbo, coloured him and put him back together again.

‘The best thing that’s happened was that I had a lovely lady come up to me today and she said she’s been coming to the craft time at Books & Books for a couple of months and today was the first time she had actually bought a book.

‘She said she could tell that the story had been written with passion. That was very warming to hear.’

In the afternoon she had the book signing which also went well. Adults – or as Scaletta put it – ‘big kids’ were buying it as fast as the kids.
