Cayman Islands government officials urged residents to complete their preparations for Hurricane Paloma and get safely indoors byo’clock Friday morning.

The Water Authority of the Cayman Islands also advised that water supply would be cut off to Grand Cayman starting at 10am inEnd11am for the rest of the island.
“Around 10 this morning is when would be a good time for people to hunker down,” said Deputy Chief Secretary Donovan Ebanks.

The latest forecasts hadcoming ashore as a strong Category 2 Hurricane sometime Friday night, although the islands will be seeing tropical storm force winds from this morning onward.
The storm was expected to come within 15 miles of Grand Cayman around 9pm Friday. Storm surge was expected to be anywhere from four to five feet on Grand Cayman with wave heights of up to 30 feet in some areas.
The Sister Islands will feel theof the storm later, likely on Saturday morning, with wave heights of 15-20 feet. Sister Islands District Commissioner Ernie Scott said shelters would be opening there around 1pm.
Tropical storm force winds were likely to subside around noon Saturday on Grand Cayman, and possibly Sunday morning on Cayman Brac.
Areas of Grand Cayman expected to be hardest hit, assuming the storm stays on its current path were North-West point, Seven Mile Beach and the south coast from South Sound to Breakers.
Traffic was backed up all over the island Friday morning as residents who were caught off guard by the sudden onset of the storm went looking for last minute supplies.Many of the stores, gas stations and banks had closed by the time motorists had hit the roads.
