Cheeky’s class puts him top of Elite

A spirited Elite came from behind defeating George Town 3-2 to land ten points equal to Sunset as Premier League action stepped up last Sunday evening at the Annex Sports Complex in George Town.

After 40 minutes with both teams desperately trying to score, lanky midfielder Jason Campbell made a set play for George Town crossing a ball to Jermaine Seymour who kicked towards goal.

Elite’s goalkeeper Joseph James miss held the ball and Justin Pierre latched unto it sending it straight to the back of the net.

Three minutes later a foul was awarded to Elite outside the box. It was taken by Dave Mclaughlin who sent it swerving past the George Town Custodian Clay Coleman to level the score.

In the second segment both teams again approached the game with good intentions. However it was national Under-20 defender Donald ‘Naddy’ Solomon Jr. who placed George Town in the lead in the 74th minute.

As the clocked ticked away both teams fought frantically. In the 81st minute the prolific national forward Calvin Jefford netted his first goal for the season to level the score.

Technical Director of Elite Gregg Ebanks wasted no time in making a substitution replacing Donavan Godet with player/coach Arden Rivers.

Rivers added his expertise to the youthful team making some intelligent passes going forward this resulted in a 90 minute goal for Rivers, his third of the season and Elite’s sixth.

A beaming Greg Ebanks said after the game that his expectations of Elite were outdone as the goals he had set since forming the club had been surpassed.

‘We did match up to the efforts and energies of George Town it was a good game,’ Ebanks said.

‘We created more chances with the wind in our favor and showed substance in depth. Ten points at this stage of the competition shows maturity and growth. In the matter of Elite achieving realistic goals they have outdone those goals set from the inception.

‘We can only go forward at this time as the sky is the limit.’

Meanwhile former national player and coach of George Town Lee Ramoon said his team was not consistent and that was what cost them the game.

‘As soon as George Town starts to play consistent and focus on their game they will start to win games. The team needs consistency in their performances,’ Ramoon said.

In the feature game played at 7pm Latinos lacked the flair they have displayed during the previous games played in the competition and had to settle for a 2-0 loss against Future SC.

The goal scorer was Mark Ebanks in the 48th and 84th minute.

In West Bay at the Ed Bush Sports Complex Roma stood their ground to share the points with Scholars International in a game that ended 0-0.

Roma earned their first point for the season.

In the other match played same place Sunset and Tigers battled to a 1-1 score line.
