Prep turn to playoffs to prove their class

The first round of the 2008/2009 CUC Primary Football League Playoffs begin with a New Year’s bang on Saturday.

Fourteen games are scheduled at the Annex Field in George Town. With two games being played simultaneously, football supporters will witness non-stop action from 9am until the final game of the day at 3pm.

These playoffs follow a league format and are being played over the next five Saturdays at the famous ground. All 15 schools will be eager to welcome in the New Year with a win and poll-position in their respective groups.

In the Under-9 Champions Cup, 2007/2008 champions and undefeated St. Ignatius Prep begin their title defence against a tough Prospect Primary squad determined to find their way back to the top.

The two remaining undefeated teams in the U-9 division, Cayman Prep and Red Bay Primary, take on the upstart Truth For Youth boys and speedy Bodden Towners respectively.

Wrapping up the U-9 Champions Cup division, West Bay’s John A. Cumber Primary battle the new boys to Champions Cup football, First Baptist.

In the U-11 Champions Cup division, the impressive and undefeated 2007/2008 U-11 Champions Cup champions and scorers of 44 goals this season, Cayman Prep, begin their title defence against John A. Cumber Primary, while a perfect 6-0 Cayman International School face another undefeated team in Red Bay Primary. Rounding off the U-11 Champions Cup first-round play, St. Ignatius play Triple C and George Town Primary go up against Prospect Primary.

Organisers are hoping for great weather for the playoffs with cool New Year breezes blowing over the hallowed turf, but just in case, PFL contributors, Progressive Distributors and Le Bleu, will be refreshing the players with Gatorade and water throughout the day and for the remainder of the playoffs.
