Local athletics continues its hunt for young talent this weekend.
The Cayman Islands Amateur Athletic Association is putting on its fourth district meet of the year Saturday morning.
The meet will be held at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in George Town Town from 9am.
A number of field and running events will take place with participants separated by age group.
The list of events is as follows:
Field events – Long jump: m/f open, 14-16, 17-19; high jump: m/f 12-13, 14-16, 17-19, open; Shot put: m/f 10-11, 12-13, 14-16, 17-19, open (20+); discus: m/f 14-16, 17-19, open; javelin m/f 14-16, 17-19, open; turbo javelin: m/f 10-11, 12-13 and ball throw: m/f 6-7, 8-9.
Running events – 80m: m/f 6-7; 100m: m/f 8-9; 10-11, 12-13, 14-16, 17-19, open; 200m: m/f 12-13, 14-16, 17-19, open; 400m: m/f 12-13, 14-16, 17-19, open; 800m: m/f 12-13, 14-16, 17-19, open; 1500m: m/f U17, 17-19, and open (20+).
The George Town meet is one of a series of developmental meets taking place across the island. Two meets were put on last month and one earlier this month. The last meet was in Bodden Town.
The CIAAA uses the meets as a way for hidden talent to come to the fore. With the local track season starting in January the meets become a way for persons not affiliated with a track club to shine.
