Ramoon’s still firing

Elite SC fresh from winning the CIFA Digicel Cup on Ash Wednesday defeated Tigers 3-1 in the Cayman Islands Football Association (Premier League competition at the Annex last Sunday.

The league takes a break this weekend to facilitate the start of the preliminary stage of the CIFA FA Cup competition.

Elite with the absence of defensive midfielder Rene Carter came into the game a bit off-key but settled down midway through the first half.

Tigers made some good attacks coming from Carlos Powery and Carlos Garcia but these were brilliantly broken up by Nicholas Ebanks, Abijah Rivers and Benjamin Cupid and of course the improving goal keeper Joseph James.

In the 39th minute Elite built up on the left flank when Calvin Jefford picked up a ball and crossed it over to Donavan Godet who lobbed it over to his brother Gabriel who blasted it home.

In the 68th minute Jefford refound his scoring capabilities and after skilfully beating the Tigers defensive line slipped one past keeper Vargas Carlos to give his team a 2-0 lead.

Both teams made two substitutions and this changed the pace of the game but it was Tigers this time that made the difference scoring a goal in the 77th minute resulting from a defensive error in the Elite backline.

Elite stepped up the pace and in the 89th minute snatched their third.

In the game played earlier at this same venue Sunset came from behind to draw 2-2 with Latinos.

After a goalless first half it was the efforts of Latinos’ Allean ‘Papa’ Grant that made a difference as Sunset struggled to get on the score sheet although making some very good passes.

In the 67th minute Sunset’s Eric Brown latched on to a cross by Declan Cassidy to level the score.

Sunset went ahead in the 81st minute with another goal from the prolific Brown.

Latinos were not done yet as three minutes later they levelled.

At the Ed Bush George Town defeated Future 3-0. Former national player Lee Ramoon netted in the 21st and 51st minute while Ormond Moore scored his in the 27th.

At this same venue Scholars International strolled against Roma winning 3-0.

Nikolai Hill opened the score sheet in the 24th minute, Lorenzo Brown took the score to 2-0 in the 74th minute and Lennox Bryan sealed the issue in the 82nd minute.

Presently Elite seem to be unstoppable in copping this title with an unbeaten run so far. The team now have 34 points, ten ahead of Scholars International.

George Town and Sunset are in third position with 23 points each. Latinos have 16 points; Future have 14, Tigers 11 and Roma still at the bottom with seven.
