Cayman’s youth will get their last licks of flag football tomorrow.
The final playoff matches for The Security Centre Youth Flag Football League take place from 1pm at the Camana Bay Sports Field.
The match ups for the final games are:
CIFFA Giants v. Security Centre Dolphins
SRS Steelers v. Burger King Gators
Broadhurst Buccaneers v. Al La Kebab Titans
Maples Raiders v. Security Centre Packers
First Caribbean Falcons v. Real Wood Ravens
The first round of the playoffs was played last Saturday. The results and highlights from those games were as follows:
In the middle division the top seeded teams advance to the playoffs. The Broadhurst Buccaneers, who were undefeated in the regular season, played the Maples Raiders and won convincingly 21-13.
Tariq Barnes started the scoring early for the Bucs with an interception returned for a touchdown. From there Tahj Lewis, Romarion Dixon and quarterback Edward Bodden would take over, hooking up numerous times for big plays on the ground and through the air.
On defense the trio of Shaun Ebanks, David Lee and Dante Ramoon held firm and shut down the Raiders when it mattered.
The Al La Kebab Titans, whose only defeat in the regular season came at the hands of the Buccaneers, beat the Security Centre Packers with a final score of 19-7. The Titans play the Bucs this Saturday for the division championship while the Raiders and Packers play to determine the final standings.
The game of the week took place in the junior division with the number one seed Burger King Gators matching up against the fourth seeded CIFFA Giants. The Giants had been winless in the regular season but came out as a different team in the playoffs and quickly took a lead against the Gators. The squad would hold on to post a shocking upset of the undefeated Gators 21-13.
The Giants scored all of their points in the first half with Jonassi McLean running defenders ragged with one touchdown and 86 yards rushing off four carries. The Giants also saw great showings from QB Tommy Sperandeo, WR Kyle Ebanks, team captain and top defender Kamani Ebanks and defensive player Dimitri Bodden.
The other game in the junior division saw the SRS Steelers match up against the Security Centre Dolphins. The Steelers played as tough as their NFL namesakes throughout but eventually were on the losing end of a 30-14 score.
Defender Justin Collins was devastating for the Dolphins, intercepting two passes for touchdowns. Kamaria Whittaker was another star as she rushed for two touchdowns. Zion Coe and Brynn Evans were the bright spots for SRS.
The Giants take on the Dolphins for the championship while the Steelers play the Gators to determine the final standings.
The senior league saw the Real Wood Ravens best the First Caribbean Falcons. The Falcons who gave up some early touchdowns fought hard in the match but could not overcome the early deficit.
The completely free league, which began in late February, has been playing every Saturday at Camana Bay. Dozens of boys and girls aged 8 to 14 have come out to play.
