Jet ski racers in East End get another chance this weekend.
The district, which plays host to the annual East End Surf Challenge in January, will come to life again with the deep-throated roar of the watercraft as the Bull Run quarter mile jet ski race series is contested on Saturday, on the beach adjacent to the popular Vivine’s Kitchen in East End.
Registration will be held from 10am to noon with the registration and admission fees waived; however, registration will come to a halt promptly at noon.
There will be a draw which will pit riders against each other in a beeline quarter-mile dash single elimination until a victor is crowned.
The final stop on the card is a circuit five-lap free-for-all inside the sound. There is no classification or categories on the day. Bull Run comes under the ‘race what ya brung’ label.
The day promises much excitement and thrills galore. In addition to the racing, a Beach Wet Fete features Lisa Lee and Monster models with the hottest and latest soca music supplied by Unit Force Disco, DJ Lexus and other guest DJs. All the delicious East End Food will be on sale throughout the day at Viviene’s Kitchen.
The event is being organised by 2Frenzied in association with Hot 104.1 FM. Sponsors include Monster Energy Drink, and two companies owned by local East Enders, East End Labour and Graphic Options.
‘The first Bull Run was held early 2000s, and the inspiration for it came from a jet ski which I rode in 2001 and came second place finish in Jet Around Cayman,’ said Shane Nobee Edwards of 2Frenzied.
‘We’re looking to keep the spirit of jet ski racing going, and being sensitive to the economic climate, have made entrance to the event free for riders and spectators on the day.
‘Drinks will be on sale on the beach from which and all proceeds will go to the East End Primary School’s to purchase libraray books. So, we’re looking forward to a great day for the family and the intention is to build momentum and establish this new event as an annual for the July 4 holiday weekend. Our sponsors are keen to make this event an annual affair.’
The first three finishers in the elimination series quarter mile race will receive trophies and other prizes, while in the five-lap event only the first home will be awarded a trophy.
‘So with the stock makets down we are hoping for a bullish effect as crowds head to the beach in East End for the first annual Bull Run.’
The Bull Run was originally set for Monday 6 July, but was moved back in light of the potential clash with the rescheduling of Jet Around Cayman.
